Lincoln Eastern Bypass completed
This weekend saw the first drivers, cyclists and pedestrians take to the brand new Lincoln Eastern Bypass.
The 7.5km road forms a large section of what will be a new ring road around the city of Lincoln.
Minster Group is proud to have played a significant role in bringing this major infrastructure project to completion.
The project was more than eight years in the planning and its construction was completed despite a series of challenges including the collapse of the original primary contractor, Carillion, flooding and the coronavirus pandemic.
One of Minster Group’s biggest contributions to the scheme was the construction of a 7.5km cycleway which runs alongside the bypass, creating an excellent new opportunity for sustainable transport and exercise.
Alongside this, Minster has supported the project with enabling works, drainage installation and reinstatement works and the team has also helped to construct new roundabouts.
Working on behalf of Lincolnshire County Council and Galliford Try, which was appointed primary contractor in 2018, we’re very proud to have brought this incredible project to fruition.
“This is an absolutely brilliant road and it’s a real feat of engineering. Working on projects of this scale is always a thrill, but with this being such an important project for the future of my hometown, there was a particular buzz about working on the Lincoln Eastern Bypass.
Over the years we’ve been working on this bypass, our team has been absolutely fantastic. We’ve worked hard, day and night, weekdays and weekends, through snow, floods and heatwaves to finish this road and now we can finally celebrate this major milestone.
Of course, the grit and determination on the ground was also matched by the hard work which went into making all this happen. Politicians including Lincoln MP, Karl McCartney and Lincolnshire County Council’s Executive Member for Highways, Richard Davies have spent years working on this project. Now they’ve also succeeded in securing funding for the next major project; the North Hykeham Relief Road. With these major projects, the long term future of Lincoln is very bright indeed.”
