Trusted suppliers for the Ministry of Defence: working alongside the Royal Air Force
Minster Group has been commissioned to work on behalf of the UK Ministry of Defence on a number of airfield projects including RAF Waddington, RAF Benson, RAF Cosford and RAF Brize Norton over recent years.
As a trusted supplier to the MoD since 2007, we deliver a wide range of services to RAF airfields from line marking, runway and patch repair and rubber deposit removal.
Our teams undertook a large number of RAF projects throughout the UK in 2020 such as replacing and resurfacing refuelling yards, installing and upgrading airfield drainage and repairing and replacing hangar door tracks.
In May and June of last year, our teams completed a major programme of maintenance and repair works at RAF Cosford in Shropshire. As a crucial part of the RAF’s technical training facilities, we completed a programme of four works across the station, which included maintenance and resurfacing for the runway, taxiways, dispersal and aprons.
We were also commissioned to resurface a 10m wide running strip along a secondary runway and to create two concrete landing pads for Chinook training at RAF Benson, in Oxfordshire last year. Working alongside Lincs Lining, our teams constructed two concrete training pads measuring 15m x 15m / 225m² for Chinook landing and take-offs and for manoeuvring heavy containers for training purposes.
Minster Group also operates a 24/7 runway repair service at RAF Brize Norton, in Oxfordshire; the largest RAF base in the UK with approximately 5,800 service personnel. This means we’re able to repair faults within minutes of them having been noticed, enabling the base to continue playing its important role in supporting the RAF around the world. Over several years, our team has also carried out important larger-scale maintenance to the runway by removing rubber deposits on the runway surface and repainting the crucial runway markings.
We’re very proud that in all of our ongoing airfield projects for the MoD we produce zero waste, in line with our commitment to smarter, cleaner, greener working. All extracted material is recycled to produce a 100% recycled surfacing material that’s suitable for farm tracks, car parks and industrial yards.
Airfield Maintenance is a core part of our business and our teams are experienced in providing the skills and technologies necessary to deliver both airside and landside support facilities. We understand the need for maximum safety and security within ‘live’ environments, and we work within tight time frames to reduce the impact of our work.
Whether it’s for major airfield-wide infrastructure projects or minor repairs and maintenance, we play an important role in keeping airfields operational year-round and take great pride in supporting Britain’s armed forces.
