Recycling

At every stage of the construction process, Minster uses a variety of tools and techniques to reduce waste and recycle material, preventing hundreds of thousands of tonnes of material from going to landfill.

In coordination with Alliance Recycling, Minster Group’s specialist recycling company, we’re able to recycle around 50% of the road material we handle. This recycled material can be used to produce farm tracks, industrial yards and car parks which are 100% recycled or it can be used to create the sub-base, base and binder course layers of new roads.

Minster Group’s green strategies are award winning and we’re at the cutting edge of green civil engineering. We’re always striving for innovation and we’re currently researching and developing new technologies which will help us to recycle even more in the future.

Minster’s commitment to recycling has been recognised by reputable organisations including BusinessGreen and the Wildlife Trust.

Minster won the award for Circular Economy Project of the Year at the BusinessGreen Leaders Awards 2019 and was named Best Business and Overall Winner of the Lincolnshire Environmental Awards 2018 in recognition of its recycling and waste reduction strategies.

Minster is one of the first companies in the UK to be using Foambase technology from OCL Regeneration to produce a foamed bitumen product that’s made from recycled material including asphalt, concrete and rubble. The technology even enables Minster to recycle material containing coal-tar, which is deemed hazardous if it’s not handled and used correctly.

The production of Foambase produces 30% less CO² than conventional hot asphalt and Minster can recycle material on-site as it’s removed from an existing surface or off-site to be used on other road surfacing projects.
