A busy month working at RAF Brize Norton

This month, Minster Surfacing has been involved in several works at the largest RAF base in the UK, RAF Brize Norton.

Year round, Minster Surfacing has the capability to provide a 24/7 runway repair service at the station in Oxfordshire, but throughout March, we’ve been replacing drains, painting route markings, replacing hangar door tracks and working on the new entrance layout… and even the “beast from the east” couldn’t stop us.

As a trusted supplier for the Ministry of Defence, we’re proud to be working on the reconfigured entrance to the RAF station. This new entrance design will allow improved access and traffic flow.

It’s always an honour to work at RAF Brize Norton

Elsewhere on the station, our teams have completed work on improvements to the station’s drainage. Drainage is crucial as water can create a hazard for vehicles and aircraft and any fuel or oil spillages can be dangerous. The drains also prevent any harmful chemicals from damaging the environment so they’re very important for station activity.

Even though Minster’s teams regularly work on RAF stations across the country, it still gets us excited which is why working on the tracks for a set of hangar doors is a particularly enjoyable task.

This enormous door houses some extremely valuable aircraft and the hangar is vital for the functioning of the station, so we’re pleased that we’re able to help.

Just like working on a road, the final task is always to refresh the painted markings. These painted lines mark out where the vehicles are safe to drive and they give important instructions to pilots and personnel at the wheel of support vehicles.

It’s always a pleasure to work with the Ministry of Defence, and our teams have done us proud. We’ll be working on more jobs for the RAF and the MOD in the near future and we’re looking forward to showing you more of our work.

It was only a few months ago that the Ministry of Defence gave us our biggest job to date – relaying 8,000 square metres of concrete at RAF Waddington in Lincolnshire. We’ll be working on even more big MOD projects soon.
